Painting - Intro to Painting with Peter Marin

This course introduces the student to the practice of painting by examining practicing the fundamental languages of painting such as color, form, composition and narrative. Comparative methods will be used to develop the foundations of a personal visual vocabulary with the aim of supporting a painting practice. Technical and theoretical issues will be discussed to form a frame of reference to serve as a reference point into painting. Class consists of slide lectures, studio time and take-home assignments. Any wet media welcome. NO experience required. Supply list available on Sertoma's webpage. 6 sessions. Instructor: Peter Marin.
Students will need:
1.Acrylic Paint Colors:
 Mars Black
 Titanium White
 Cadmium Red (Cadmium Hue is ok)
 Cadmium Yellow (Cadmium Hue is ok, medium or light)
 Cadmium Orange (Cadmium Hue is ok)
 Ultramarine Blue
 Green Permanent (if this is not available, any green that makes you think 'Ireland')
 Dioxazine Purple
2. Matte Medium, low viscosity
3. Brushes
 Flats: recommended in any size between 8-12
Filberts: recommended in any size between 4-10
Rounds: recommended in any size between 0-8
One of each at least
4. Palette Knives: a pack or assortment is recommended. Having one or two is necessary.
5. Disposable palette, gray surface if possible
6. 3 plastic quart containers
7. Rags/paper towles
8. 18x24 canvas pad with at least 12 sheets. If you wish to work on canvas this is ok. Make sure you have at least 12.
Students may bring any other paints or materials they wish to work with.
