Drawing - Still Life in Charcoal

This class will deal with drawing basic geometric forms, defining a curved surface and the logistics of designing a composition using fabric, solid and reflective forms. Actual props will be used with a defined light source. The media used will be charcoal both in pencil and compressed stick form. This course is open to students of all abilities who wish to improve their drawing skills as well as the relationship of value placement in a composition. $10 lab fee due to the instructor at the first class to cover cost of props. Students provide materials, supply list prints on receipt. 4 sessions. Instructor: Nancy Carty.

Supplies:
1) Three sheets of toned Canson Mi Tientes drawing paper- 19 x 24 ( approx.) a light to middle value of gray or tan. (Will use half sheets for the first two classes and full sheets for the last two classes).
2) A drawing board or support for your sheet of paper.
3) Generals Charcoal pencils- HB, 2B, 4B (You can purchase a pack with a white charcoal pencil at Jerry’s Artarama)
4) White Charcoal pencil (not oil based, or colored pencil or conte crayon)
5) Pencil Sharpener (I like the one with three holes)
6) Kneaded eraser
7) Pencil or pen / notebook paper for notes (I will have a few handouts fyi)
8) Two sticks of white chalk / or white charcoal
9) Two sticks of Black compressed charcoal

Note: charcoal can be a bit messy so additional suggested items are:
10) apron or smock
11) paper towels (I like the viva cloth towels)

$10 lab fee due to the instructor at the first class to cover cost of props.
