The Juniper Level Botanic Garden was established in 1986 when Raleigh native Tony Avent and his wife Michelle purchased a 2.2 acre abandoned sandy loam tobacco Their vision is to collect, study, preserve, propagate, and share plants for a better world. The garden is now over 28 acres and filled with more than 27,000 taxa of plants, including native perennials, exotic plants, rare delights, and an array of incredible and unusual specimen trees and shrubs you won’t see anywhere else in the world. Visit the Farmers Market for some time to shop and lunch on your own.

The Active Adult Program staff organize numerous one-day and multi-day trips throughout the year. Our trips like our programs are geared towards adult 50 years and better. The trips are open to all adults no matter where you reside. By registering for this Active Adult Program Trip Yearly Registration, you will receive the trip information as soon as they are advertised for registration. Join us Monday night for conversations surrounding African American history subjects, places, events such as John Chavis, Juneteenth, and Chavis Park history. We will take a trip through time from the 1700s through present day. Refreshments will be provided.

Join SRIS as we embark on an unforgettable day trip to Wilmington, North Carolina. We will stop for lunch at Cape Fear Seafood before diving into the wonders of marine life at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Afterward, we’ll take a stroll on the Carolina Beach boardwalk and grab a sweet treat before heading back to Raleigh. Please bring money for lunch, dessert, souvenirs, and quick bite to eat on the way home. Come discover, relax, and enjoy Wilmington's coastal paradise, ensuring a day filled with cherished memories. Please note, this day-trip is designed for individuals with disabilities.

We will meet at Jaycee Community Center, 2405 Wade Avenue, at 7:30am. Pick up time will be at 7:30pm. Please note: no cash will be accepted for this trip. A credit card or a pre-paid visa gift cards are suggested options.

Participants needing more support for behavior, feeding, mobility, participation, or personal care & toileting must provide their own personal assistant. The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department Personal Assistant Policy requires paperwork to be submitted, and signed, from both the service provider and the parent/guardian of the participant for approval. These forms must be submitted no less than 2 weeks prior to the Personal Assistant attending camp. Forms not submitted by the appropriate deadline will not be processed in time and the Personal Assistant may not be authorized to attend the outing.
